The Bell and the Cat

The Print inspired by the Mice in Council. I created this print back in my Sophomore year of college with ink and illustration board.  

I ended up recreating this print in 2022 when I sold the original. You might be saying Hey cat’s don’t have ear bones. An you would be correct. The original skull was modeled after a cat skeleton from the Spirit of Halloween store. If you don’t know the store is known for having a few skeletal animals that aren’t anatomically correct. Such as the skeletal spider or the skeletal octopus. I wanted to pay homage to the original and keep the boney ears.

In my print the Cat has been belled.

But both the Council and Cat are gone now. What comes next? After a herculean task is accomplished and the story passed on.

 
 

Process Work

 

A Notan is a Japanese term that references the light and dark. A Notan is a reflection of harmony and balance. Using only black and white to create the illustration is an exercise in composition. It also forces the artist to focus on the legibility of their piece as a whole.

A Notan should be identifiable from across a room. That is the key to a successful Notan.
